The World in Hands Foundation was primarily established for deafblind individuals, but our activities also extend to those with visual or hearing disabilities.
How Do We Work?
You can find information about our current offer of support and ongoing projects under the ‘Current Projects’ tab.
The Deafblind Club
We run the Deafblind Club, which brings together individuals with visual and hearing disabilities from Warsaw, the surrounding areas, and even from more distant towns and cities within the Masovian Voivodeship. This tradition of club meetings has been ongoing since 1992, when it was initiated by the Association for the Welfare of the Deafblind.
The meeting topics are quite diverse, often featuring travel stories, practical advice from specialists, or discussions about participants’ interests.
We invite guest speakers on selected topics, but participants also have the chance to take the lead as speakers. They actively contribute to choosing meeting topics. Above all, each gathering provides an opportunity to socialise, foster integration, and share experiences.
Meetings are held twice a month at the Śródmieście Cultural Centre in Warsaw. We provide guide-interpreters for deafblind people to get to the meeting, as well as support from volunteers and interpreters of Polish Sign Language during the meeting.
If you have a visual or hearing disability and would like to participate in our meetings — please come along!
- Check the calendar to see when the next Deafblind Club meeting will take place.
- Contact us in advance if you need the support of a guide-interpreter to get to a meeting.
We also organise various types of group meetings and activities, including group walks. In addition, we regularly gather for board games, such as chess, checkers, card games, and more. These meetings primarily serve as opportunities for social integration through shared hobbies and are led by Bartek, a passionate deafblind board game enthusiast.
Support of Volunteers and Guide-Interpreters
The Foundation's volunteers assist individuals with visual and hearing disabilities at our meetings and provide them with in-home support.
We also offer guide-interpreters to support deafblind individuals with mobility and communication, including attending our meetings, visiting the office, seeing the doctor, shopping, and other daily activities.
Our volunteers and guide-interpreters are a team of dedicated people who significantly contribute to the Foundation's mission.
For more information about the role of a guide-interpreter, visit our knowledge base.
If you need support from a volunteer or guide-interpreter, please contact us at least a few days before the planned activity.
Training
We offer training and workshops on deafblindness and interaction with deafblind persons for primary school, high school, and university students, as well as public institutions, companies, and other interested groups. The training sessions are customised to each group's needs and focus on raising awareness about the unique requirements of and communication with deafblind individuals.
If you are interested in hosting a training session at your school, company, or institution, please get in touch with us.
